![]() ![]() Okay, cool I guess all the similarities are just a coincidence. Once the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation hit, they were pretty few and far between, though they’ve made a comeback now. For me, for a while at least, it was 3D platformers. That's it, the Hidden Deep and Carrion devs like the same type of niche horror genre, which both thought would work well with this type of perspective, while being likely unaware of the other game and having a completely different type of gameplay for their game. Published: Janu9:00 AM / By: William Worrall Sometimes, there is a genre from your youth that dies off at some point, and you didn’t even notice it happening. That's it, the Hidden Deep and Carrion devs like the same type of niche horror genre, which both thought would work well with this type of perspective, while being likely unaware of the other game and having a completely different type of gameplay for their game. Explore, climb, swim, scan, blast and shoot your way. True "original" designs come once every half-decade, are then likely taken and adapted by a more successful popular game, for then being shoved into every new game years later (like how basically all games have some sort of crafting mechanic these days, even if it was unnecessary), or remain a niche genre that developers adapt to their own works, because well, they like it. Hidden Deep is an atmospheric sci-fi action game heavily inspired by Aliens, The Thing, and Half-Life. Look, i know im coming off as a condescending pretentious *sshole who could've just said Hidden Deep came before Carrion, but i mean no personal aggression towards you, sorry if it looks like the complete opposite, however i can't help but get triggered into a rant because people NEED to understand videogames that a freakishly long time to be made and that literally ALL developers use already existing concepts and improve/modify them to fit their game better.ĭarkest Dungeon wasn't the first game of it's type, Dark Souls didn't invent ""hard"" melee combat game, Minecraft and Terraria were developed at the same time and neither are a copy of each other despite having similar themes and mechanics (which even then is a bit of a stretch because Terraria is focused towards being combat game while Minecraft is a building game), Rimworld wasn't the first colony-management and it arguably isn't even the best, likewise Prison Architect wasn't inspired by Rimworld nor vice-versa despite having practically copy-pased graphics and started development at almost the same time, Far Cry isn't "Skyrim with guns" because Skyrim wasn't even the first game on the very same franchise, Fornite isn't the first battle-royale and neither was PUBG. That they use very similar and quite common videogame designs?Īnd that developers are human who like the same type of concepts and genres as other humans, and likely come up with similar ideas which may even be developed in parallel to their peers while being completely unaware of each other? ? (Heck even the latest trailer has an ending scene practically ripped-off the movie, which is something i absolutely love) Originally posted by Netriosilver:with all the similarities, I doubt they didn't have some inspiration from the most popular recent game inspired by The Thing.Īs stated before, this game had a gameplay reveal before Carrion was even announced. ![]()
